Faithy help centre

Everything Faithy can do, in the order you are likely to need it. Use the search box above to jump straight to an answer, or work through the sections below.

What Faithy is

Faithy is a private social network for faith communities. You join the congregation you actually belong to, and you see its posts, its events, its groups and its people — nothing more, and nothing that is open to the general public.

Three things follow from that, and they explain most of how the app behaves:

  • Member content on Faithy is private. There is no anonymous browsing of posts and no public profile page. Every piece of content is readable only by people of the same faith, or only by members of the community that published it.
  • Your faith shapes the wording. Faithy asks which faith you follow when you sign up, then speaks your language: the same screen reads Churches, Mosques or Synagogues depending on who is looking at it. Where this guide says community or congregation, your app will show whichever word fits your faith.
  • The web app and the phone app are the same app. Anything you post, send or join here appears on the Faithy Android app, and the other way round.

A note on the words in this guide. Faithy calls a place of worship a congregation generically. Once you choose a faith, the app replaces that word throughout with the one your tradition uses. Groups, events, posts and giving work identically whichever word you see.

Your account

Creating an account

You can identify yourself with either an email address or a phone number — pick one at the top of the sign-up form before you fill anything in. You will also need your first and last name and a password of at least six characters.

Sign-up happens in two steps. Faithy sends a one-time code to whichever channel you chose, and the account is only created once you type that code back in. If the code does not arrive, Send a new code on the same screen will issue another.

If you pick a phone number, choose your country from the picker first. It fills in the dial code and shapes the number as you type, so you cannot accidentally enter a number in the wrong format.

Continuing with Google or Facebook

Where your community's Faithy deployment has them enabled, Continue with Google and Continue with Facebook appear above the form. These skip the code step entirely, because the provider has already proven you own the address. The same button both creates an account and signs you back in later — there is no separate "sign up with Google".

One requirement: the provider must give Faithy an email address. If your Google or Facebook account has no address attached, add one with that provider, or use the email form instead.

Choosing your faith and scripture edition

A new account is not finished until you pick a faith. That choice does two things: it sets the vocabulary described above, and it decides which communities Faithy suggests to you.

You are then offered the editions of your holy book that Faithy carries — a particular Bible translation, for instance. Picking one turns on the scripture reader and the verse of the day. You can skip this and choose later in Settings.

Signing in

Signing in also takes a code. Enter your email address or phone number and your password, and Faithy sends a fresh one-time code to confirm it is you. This happens every time you sign in on a device that is not already signed in.

Forgotten password

Choose Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen. Faithy sends a code to your email address or phone, and the next screen lets you enter that code and choose a new password in one step.

Faithy will never ask for your password by email or message. The only place you should ever type it is the sign-in form.

Signing out

Settings → Account → Sign out. You will need your password and a fresh code to sign back in, so do not sign out of a shared device unless you can receive the code.

Finding your way around

Faithy lays itself out differently on a wide screen and on a phone, but every destination is reachable from both.

The bar across the top

  • Faithy — the mark on the left always returns you to your home feed.
  • Search — searches for congregations to join, by name, city or region. It does not search posts or people.
  • Bell — your notifications, with a count of the unread ones.
  • Speech bubble — your direct messages, with a count of unread conversations.
  • Theme — flips between light and dark immediately.
  • Your photo — opens your own profile.

The menu (wide screens)

On a laptop or tablet the left-hand menu is grouped the same way as the phone app's account screen:

  • My profile, Home, Messages, Notifications, Discover, Scripture
  • Communities — your congregations, and your groups
  • Activity — My calendar, My posts, Prayer requests, Saved, Giving history
  • Account — Settings

On a wide enough screen a third column appears on the right listing the communities and groups you belong to, so you can jump into any of them from anywhere.

The tab bar (phones)

Five destinations sit along the bottom: Home, Discover, Events (your calendar), Chats and You. Everything else is reached from your profile and from Settings.

The "Reconnecting…" strip

Faithy keeps a live connection open so new posts, messages and notifications arrive without a refresh. If that connection drops — you walked into a lift, your laptop slept — a small strip appears and Faithy reconnects on its own. Nothing you have typed is lost, and you do not need to reload the page.

Your home feed

Home merges the posts and events of every community and group you belong to, newest first. It keeps loading as you scroll.

Verse of the day

At the top of the feed sits one verse, chosen for the day from your own holy book. Everyone reading the same scripture sees the same verse on the same day. Tap the reference to open that passage in the scripture reader.

The card only appears once you have chosen a scripture edition in Settings.

The "new posts" button

When something is published while you are reading, Faithy does not push it into the list under your thumb. A small N new posts button appears at the top instead; tap it when you are ready and the new items slot in.

Create

The Create button sits above the feed. It offers three shortcuts — Write a post, Post a photo and Post a video — the last two opening your file picker straight away.

Posts

Writing a post

Every post belongs to one community or one group — pick the target at the top of the composer. If you have not joined anything yet, the composer will tell you so; join a congregation first.

Inside the composer you can:

  • Attach photos and videos — up to ten per post, each up to 64 MB.
  • Choose a tag — the tags offered depend on the community; typical ones are Prayer request, Testimony, Announcement, Sermon, Question, Encouragement, Bible study, Youth, Worship and Outreach. Tapping the selected tag again clears it.
  • Write on a colour — twelve coloured canvases are offered for a text-only post. They are the author's choice and look the same for every reader, on a light screen and a dark one alike. Attaching a photo removes the canvas, because a post cannot have both.
  • Mention someone — type @ and the first letters of their name. Faithy suggests members of the community you are posting to; arrow keys move through the list and Enter inserts the name. Mentioned members get a notification and their name becomes a link.

Who can see a post

A small icon under the author's name says who a post reaches:

  • Globe — visible to anyone of the same faith.
  • Padlock — visible only to members of that congregation.

This is set by the community's leaders for the whole community, not per post. Posts in a private group are visible to that group's members.

Reactions

Faithy has three reactions:

ReactionMeaning
👍 LikeThe default — a single tap on the reaction button.
❤️ LoveWarmer than a like.
🙏 Prayed"I have prayed for this" — most used on prayer requests.

Tap the button once to react and again to take it back. To pick a different reaction, press and hold on a touch screen or right-click with a mouse. The counts beside the button show which reactions a post has drawn.

Comments

Open a post to read and write comments. Threads go two levels deep: a reply to a reply is attached to the same top-level comment, which keeps long prayer threads readable.

  • Reply to any comment, and the person you replied to is quoted above yours.
  • Edit your own comments; they are marked "edited" afterwards.
  • Delete your own comments — this removes them for everyone.
  • Voice comments recorded in the phone app play here as an audio bar.

If you are not a member of the community, you can read the conversation but the comment box is not shown.

Saving

The bookmark on any post or event adds it to Saved. Saving is private — the author is not told, and nobody can see your saved list.

The post menu

The ⋯ button on a card offers, depending on who you are:

  • Open post — the full post with its comments.
  • Send in Faithy — share it into one of your conversations.
  • Copy link — a link that opens the Faithy app for anyone who has it, and a web page for anyone who does not.
  • Edit post — your own posts only. Edited posts are marked.
  • Pin to top of feed — moderators only.
  • Approve / Reject — moderators, on posts awaiting review.
  • Report post — see Reporting.
  • Delete post — the author and moderators. This cannot be undone.

Banners on a post

  • "Waiting for a moderator to approve this post" — the community requires approval before members' posts go out. Only you and the moderators can see it meanwhile.
  • "A moderator rejected this post" — only you can see it.
  • "Pinned post" — a moderator has pinned it to the top of the feed.

Long posts, links and photos

A long post is folded with a Show more button so one essay cannot bury the rest of the feed. A post containing a video link shows a preview card. Photos open full size when tapped; a post with more than four shows the first four and a +N marker.

Events

Saying whether you are going

Every event card carries three buttons — Going, Interested and Can't go. Tap one to answer and tap another to change your mind. Anything you mark Going appears in My calendar, soonest first.

The event page

Opening an event shows the full description, when and where, who is going, and a comment thread. See all under "Going" lists everyone who answered.

On site, livestream or online

An event says which of three kinds it is. On site carries an address, while Livestream and Online carry a link to join.

Adding to your own calendar

The event menu offers Add to my calendar, which downloads a standard calendar file. Opening it adds the event to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook or whatever else you use.

Creating an event

If your role allows it, a Create event button appears on your community's Events tab. An event needs a title and a start time; description, end time, location or link, and photos are optional. You can edit or delete an event you created afterwards.

Communities

A community — your church, mosque or synagogue — is the main unit of Faithy. Its feed, its events, its groups and its members all live on one page.

Finding yours

Discover searches by name, city or region. Results show whether you are already a member, whether you have a request outstanding, and how many members each has.

Asking to join

Open the community and choose Ask to join. A leader reviews the request; until then the community shows as Requested and you can withdraw with Cancel request. You are notified when the request is approved or declined.

Before you are a member you can see what the community's visibility setting allows — usually its feed and events — but not its member list or its groups.

Registering a community that is not on Faithy

Discover → Register your church (or mosque, or synagogue). Fill in the name and location — search for the place on the map so the address is exact — plus optional website, contact email and contact phone.

Faithy staff review every registration. Once approved, you become the community's first administrator with full permissions, and can invite members, create groups and set up giving. Until then the community shows as Pending review.

Roles

Each member carries a role, shown as a small badge next to their name. Faithy ships four standard ones — Member, Admin, Leader and Owner — and a community can define its own with their own names and colours. What a role can actually do is a set of permissions:

  • Post to the community feed
  • Create events
  • Moderate posts (approve, reject, pin, delete)
  • Manage members (approve join requests, change roles)
  • Manage roles
  • Manage the community itself (its name, location and settings)
  • Manage giving (payout accounts and the ledger)

You only see buttons for the permissions you hold, which is why two members can be looking at the same page and see different controls.

Giving to your community

Once you are a member, a Give button appears on the community page. See Giving.

Groups

A group is a smaller circle inside a community — a choir, a youth ministry, a Tuesday study group. It has its own feed and its own members, and everything posted in it stays in it.

Public and private groups

  • Public — any member of the parent community can find it.
  • Private — visible only to the people who have been added.

Getting into a group

Groups are joined by being added, not by asking. A group's admins add members from the parent community's roster, so you must belong to the community first.

Group roles

Groups have their own short ladder, separate from the community's roles: Member, Moderator, Admin and Owner. An admin can promote someone as far as moderator; only the owner can appoint another admin.

Running a group

Group admins get a Manage tab with:

  • Members' posts need approval — a moderator approves each post before the rest of the group sees it.
  • Rename group — takes effect immediately.
  • Posts awaiting review — the approval queue.

Groups themselves are created by community administrators, from the community's Groups tab.

Leading a community

If you hold a leadership role, a Manage tab appears on your community's page. What is on it depends on which permissions your role carries.

At a glance

The top of the tab shows the community's member count, event count and number of gifts received.

Join requests

When somebody asks to join, the count appears here. Each request shows who it is and when they asked, with Approve and Decline. Both outcomes notify the applicant.

Approving posts

Turn on Members' posts need approval and every post by an ordinary member waits in Posts awaiting review until a moderator approves it. Authors see their own post with a banner explaining that it is waiting; nobody else sees it at all.

Moderators can also pin a post to the top of the feed, and delete any post in the community.

Who can read the community's posts

One switch decides it for the whole community:

  • Off — anyone of the same faith can read the community's posts.
  • On — only members of this congregation can.

Name and location

Edit name & location changes both, but they behave differently: a location change applies immediately, while a name change goes to Faithy staff for approval. The current name stays live until they approve it, and the Manage tab shows a "Name change pending approval" notice meanwhile.

Publications by tag

Publications by tag breaks the community's posts down by tag with a count for each — a quick way to find every announcement, or every sermon, that has been posted.

Changing someone's role

On the Members tab, the Role button next to a member lists the roles your community has defined and their rank. You cannot change your own role.

Messages

Faithy's messages are one-to-one conversations between members. There are no group chats.

Starting a conversation

Open somebody's profile and tap Message. The conversation then appears in your Messages list, sorted by the most recent message.

Sending

  • Enter sends; Shift + Enter starts a new line.
  • The paperclip attaches photos and videos — up to ten at a time.
  • Voice messages recorded in the phone app play here as an audio bar.

Replying, editing, deleting

Press and hold a message (or right-click it) for:

  • Reply — quotes the message above yours.
  • Edit — your own text messages. They are marked "edited".
  • Delete — removes the message for both of you, not just for you.

Ticks, typing and presence

  • ✓ — sent. ✓✓ — read by the other person.
  • typing… appears under their name while they are writing.
  • Online, or Last seen …, appears if that person has left presence switched on in their privacy settings.

Sharing something into a conversation

Send in Faithy — on a post, an event, a community, a group or a profile — lets you pick a conversation and sends a card that opens the thing itself.

Only a reference travels with the message, never a copy of the content. The card is resolved for the person reading it, against their own permissions. So sharing a post from a community your friend does not belong to does not smuggle it to them: they see "This content is no longer available" instead. The same message reads correctly for someone who does have access.

Deleting a conversation

The ⋯ button at the top of a chat offers Delete conversation. This clears it for you only — the other person keeps their copy, and the conversation comes back if either of you writes again.

Notifications

The bell collects everything that happened while you were away. Tapping a notification takes you straight to what it is about — for a comment or a reply, to the exact comment rather than the top of a long thread.

Faithy notifies you about:

  • Reactions, comments and replies on your content, and mentions of you
  • Direct messages
  • Join requests waiting for you to review, and the outcome of your own requests
  • Changes to your role in a community
  • Giving — received, confirmed, delivered or refunded
  • Outcomes of staff reviews (a registration, a name change)
  • A warning before an inactive account is deleted

Mark all read at the top clears the badge in one go. You can turn individual kinds off in Settings → Notifications.

Scripture

Scripture opens your holy book in the edition you chose. Pick a book, pick a chapter, read it; ‹ Prev and Next › move between chapters.

Verses your community has posted about

Some verses are marked as you read. That means people in your communities have posted about them — tap the verse and those posts appear below the chapter. It is the bridge between reading on your own and what your congregation is discussing.

When a post cites a passage, the reference is a link. Tapping it opens the reader at that chapter with the verse highlighted.

Changing edition

Settings → Faith & scripture → Scripture edition. The reader, the verse of the day and every scripture link follow the edition you pick.

Giving

Faithy lets you give your tithes and offerings through Ivorian mobile money — Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Moov Money and Wave.

Faithy does not take the payment inside the app. You make an ordinary mobile-money transfer to Faithy's number yourself, then tell Faithy the reference from your confirmation SMS. Faithy matches that reference and forwards the money to your community. Nothing is ever charged to you automatically, and Faithy never holds your mobile-money credentials.

Giving, step by step

  1. Open the community and tap Give, or go to Giving history → Give to.
  2. Enter the amount in XOF (at least 100), choose Tithe or Offering, and pick your mobile-money operator. You can add an optional label such as "January tithe".
  3. Read the receipt. It shows what reaches the community, the Faithy fee, and the total you must transfer — one number, with everything Faithy charges already in it.
  4. Make the transfer to the number shown, using your operator's app or the USSD code Faithy displays. Copy code puts the USSD string on your clipboard. If your operator asks you to pay a transfer fee, that is its own charge, on top of that total and separate from anything Faithy asks for: pay it yourself, and never let it be taken out of the amount you are sending — Faithy matches your gift on the exact figure that arrives, so a transfer the fees were deducted from will not be recognised.
  5. Paste the transfer reference from the confirmation SMS into the box and submit. Confirm the amount and reference on the prompt.

What happens next

Your gift appears in Giving history and moves through these states:

StatusMeaning
PendingSubmitted; Faithy is matching your reference against the transfers it has received.
ReceivedYour transfer has been matched and confirmed.
DeliveredThe money has been forwarded to your community.
RejectedThe reference could not be matched to a transfer.
ExpiredNo matching transfer arrived in time.
Refund due / Refunding / RefundedMoney that reached Faithy but could not be delivered to the community is returned to you.

You are notified when a gift is confirmed, delivered or refunded.

For giving managers

With the "manage giving" permission you get Giving — accounts & ledger on the community's Manage tab:

  • Payout accounts — the mobile-money numbers Faithy forwards the community's gifts to, one per operator, each with the account holder's name.
  • Ledger — totals pending, received and delivered, plus the individual gifts.

The ledger is deliberately anonymous. Donor identities are never shown to a community's leaders. What you give, and whether you give, is between you and Faithy.

Your profile

Your profile carries your photo, your name, the scripture edition you read, your username if you have one, when you joined, and your posts.

Editing it

Edit profile lets you change your first and last name, your photo and your cover image. Changes appear everywhere your name does as soon as you save.

Somebody else's profile

Another member's profile shows their posts — unless they have turned that off — and gives you Message and Report member.

Online and last seen

Faithy shows you as online while the Faithy tab is actually in front of you. Switch to another tab or lock your phone and you drop offline shortly afterwards. If you turn presence off in your privacy settings, nobody sees either your dot or your last-seen time.

Settings

Appearance

  • Theme — Match my device, Light or Dark. The button in the top bar flips between light and dark directly.
  • Language — English, French, Arabic or Hebrew. This also sets the language of the messages Faithy sends you.

Faith & scripture

  • My faith — changing it re-words the app and changes which communities are suggested. Two things to know: it clears your scripture edition, and it can only be changed once every 90 days.
  • Scripture edition — which translation the reader and the verse of the day use.

Privacy

Notifications

Switch off any kind you do not want: reactions, comments, replies, mentions, direct messages, role changes, join requests to review, and giving received or delivered.

Account

  • Delete my account if inactive — 3, 6 or 12 months. If you do not sign in for that long, Faithy deletes your account and your posts. Anything you own — a community, a group — passes to the most senior remaining member. You are warned by notification before this happens.
  • Sign out.

Safety & privacy

Reporting something

Posts, events, comments, communities and members can all be reported, from the ⋯ menu on each. Choose a reason — Spam, Harassment, Hate speech, Inappropriate content, or Something else — and add any detail that helps.

Reports go to Faithy staff, and the person you report is not told. Nothing changes for them at the moment you report; staff review it.

What other people can see about you

  • Your name and photo, wherever you post or comment.
  • Your role badge in the communities you belong to.
  • Your posts, unless you have turned that off on your profile.
  • Your presence, unless you have turned that off.
  • Not your saved items, your giving, your direct messages, or the communities you belong to (that list is yours alone on your profile).

A copied Faithy link opens the app for anyone who has it installed, and a small web page for anyone who does not. That page never shows the content — only what kind of thing the link points at — because whoever follows it has not signed in and Faithy has no public member content. To read the thing itself, they must have Faithy and be allowed to see it. The Privacy, Contacts, Terms and Help pages are publicly accessible.

Emails from your community, and unsubscribing

Communities can send email newsletters. Every one carries an unsubscribe link at the bottom, which opens a page asking you to confirm; one tap and that community stops emailing you. It changes nothing else about your account, and other communities you belong to can still email you.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a code every time I sign in?

Your password alone is not enough to get into a Faithy account. The one-time code sent to your email address or phone proves you still control that channel, which is what stops a leaked password from being enough on its own. Signing in with Google or Facebook skips the code, because the provider has already done that check.

Can people outside my faith see what I post?

No. Posts reach either everyone of your faith or only members of your congregation, depending on a setting your community's leaders control. There is no setting that makes anything public, and there is no anonymous browsing of Faithy at all.

Why does the app say "Churches" for my friend and "Mosques" for me?

Faithy uses the vocabulary of each reader's own faith. The underlying thing is the same — you are both looking at communities — but the word changes with who is looking.

Why can't I change my faith again?

Faith can be changed once every 90 days. It re-words the whole app and changes which communities you are shown, so it is deliberately not something to flip back and forth. Changing it also clears your scripture edition, which you then pick again.

I asked to join a community days ago and nothing has happened.

Join requests are reviewed by that community's own leaders, not by Faithy. If it is taking a long time, contact the community directly — the About tab usually carries an email address or a phone number. You can withdraw the request at any time with Cancel request.

Where did my post go? I posted it and cannot find it.

Most likely the community requires posts to be approved. Your post is still there — open My posts and you will see it with a banner saying it is waiting for a moderator. Nobody else can see it until it is approved. If a moderator rejected it, the banner says so instead.

Can I post to more than one community at once?

No. A post belongs to exactly one community or group, chosen at the top of the composer. Post it again elsewhere if you need it in two places.

Can I move a post to a different community after posting it?

No. Editing a post lets you change its text, its photos, its tag and its background, but not where it lives. Delete it and post it again in the right place.

Why can't I pick a coloured background any more?

Backgrounds are only available on text-only posts. As soon as you attach a photo or a video, the canvas is dropped — the media becomes the visual part of the post.

Does the author know when I save their post?

No. Saving is entirely private. Nobody is notified and nobody can see your saved list.

What is the difference between a community and a group?

A community is the congregation itself — you ask to join it, and it has events, giving and roles. A group is a smaller circle inside one community, such as a choir or a study group; you are added to it by its admins rather than asking, and it has only a feed and its own members.

I shared a post with a friend and they say it is unavailable.

That is Faithy working correctly. A shared message carries only a pointer to the content, never a copy, and the card is resolved against the reader's permissions. If your friend is not in the community that post belongs to, they cannot see it — sharing does not grant access.

If I delete a message, does it disappear for the other person too?

Yes. Deleting a message removes it for both of you. Deleting a whole conversation is different — that clears only your copy, and the other person keeps theirs.

Are there group chats?

No. Faithy's messages are one-to-one. For a conversation among several people, use a group's feed.

Can I record a voice message on the web?

Not from a browser. Voice messages and voice comments are recorded in the Faithy phone app; here they play back as an audio bar.

Can I hide when I was last online?

Yes — Settings → Privacy → Show when I was last seen. With it off, nobody sees your presence dot or your last-seen time.

Does my church see how much I give?

Your community sees the money and the totals, but not who gave it. The giving ledger shown to leaders is anonymous by design.

Why do I have to make the mobile-money transfer myself?

Faithy does not process payments. You transfer to Faithy's number using your own mobile-money account, then submit the reference from your confirmation SMS so Faithy can match it and forward the money. It also means Faithy never has your mobile-money credentials and can never charge you without you acting.

I gave, but my gift still says "Pending".

Pending means Faithy has your reference but has not yet matched it to a transfer. That matching is not instant. If it stays pending, check that the reference you pasted is the one from the confirmation SMS and that you transferred the exact total shown, including the service fee.

Can I get a refund?

If money reaches Faithy but cannot be delivered to the community, it is returned to you automatically — you will see the gift move to Refund due, then Refunding, then Refunded. Once a gift is Delivered, it is with your community and you should speak to them.

Do I need the phone app as well?

No — the web app does everything except recording voice messages and taking voice calls, which happen on phones. Both apps show the same account and the same content.

What happens if I stop using Faithy?

After the period you choose in Settings → Account (3, 6 or 12 months of not signing in), Faithy deletes your account and your posts. You are warned by notification first, and simply signing in resets the clock. Anything you own, such as a community, passes to the most senior remaining member.

Which languages are available?

English, French, Arabic and Hebrew. Use Settings → Appearance → Language, or the language picker on the sign-in screen if you have not signed in yet. It also sets the language of the emails and messages Faithy sends you.

If something goes wrong

The code never arrives

Check the address or number on the screen above the code box — it is shown so you can spot a typo. Use Send a new code to issue another. If you have tried several times in quick succession, Faithy will ask you to wait a moment before trying again. Codes expire; if yours has, ask for a new one rather than retyping the old one.

It says "Reconnecting…" and stays there

Faithy retries on its own, and returning to the tab prompts an immediate attempt. If it persists, your network is likely blocking the live connection — try another network. Nothing is lost while it reconnects.

A photo or video will not upload

Files are limited to 64 MB each, and a post can carry ten. A very large video will need trimming or compressing first. If an upload stops part-way, remove the greyed-out preview and try it again.

"This content is no longer available"

Either it has been deleted, or it belongs to a community you are not in. Faithy shows the same message for both on purpose — distinguishing them would itself reveal that the content exists.

A button other people have is missing for me

Almost always a permissions difference. Creating events, approving posts, adding members and managing giving each need a role that carries that permission. Ask an administrator of the community to check your role.

The verse of the day is not showing

Choose a scripture edition in Settings → Faith & scripture. Without one Faithy does not guess which translation to quote, so the card is left out.

Still stuck

Report the problem from the item it concerns — the ⋯ menu's Report option reaches Faithy staff — or contact your community's leaders through the contact details on their About tab.
