Privacy
How Faithy protects your privacy and handles data on the web and in the Android app.
Your privacy controls
In Faithy, open Settings → Privacy to control what other members see:
- Show my faith: turn this off to hide your faith on your profile.
- Show when I was last seen: turn this off to hide your presence dot and last-seen time.
- List my posts on my profile: turn this off to remove posts from your profile. The posts remain in the communities where you shared them.
Your name and photo appear with your posts and comments. Access to community and group content depends on membership and the permissions for that content.

How Faithy protects your data
The same backend storage protections and content access rules apply whether you use Faithy on the web or on Android.
- Encryption in transit: connections between your browser and the HTTPS Faithy website use TLS encryption. The released Android app also uses TLS for its connection to the Faithy API and checks the server certificate and hostname. These protections help prevent information from being read or changed while it travels over the network.
- Encryption in backend storage: sensitive account details and message text are encrypted using AES-256-GCM. This strong, authenticated encryption protects the stored information and detects tampering.
- Protected sessions and backups: saved web sign-in sessions are encrypted on the server. Production database backups are encrypted before they are sent to backup storage.
- Controlled access: access to content depends on your account, community or group membership, and permissions. Sharing a link does not give its recipient permission to read private content.
Protect your device too: the web and Android apps can keep previously loaded content on your device for offline use. Use a device lock and sign out when you finish on a shared device.
Sign-in and storage in the web app
The web app uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. Your authentication token is kept on the server; it is not stored in browser JavaScript. Sign out on a shared device when you have finished.
The web app stores preferences and a cached profile in browser storage. It also caches app files and previously loaded content to help you use Faithy with a slow connection or while offline.
Scripture you choose to download in the web app is stored on your device and remains available after sign-out. You can manage those downloads in the scripture reader.
Sign-in and storage in the Android app
On Android, Faithy stores sign-in details, preferences and cached content in storage reserved for the app. This keeps you signed in and lets you read previously loaded content offline.
In Settings, you can limit the cache size or clear local storage. Clearing the cache preserves your sign-in and pending offline work. Signing out clears the account’s local session and cached account content. Files you save or share outside Faithy are managed separately by Android and the apps you share them with.
You can enable Settings → Privacy → App PIN lock to restrict access to Faithy on your phone. On supported devices, Android can unlock it using a fingerprint or face check. Faithy receives the result of that check; it does not receive or store your biometric data.
Android permissions
The Android app can request access to the camera for taking photos, recording video or scanning codes; the microphone for voice recordings and calls; photos, videos or storage for selecting and saving files; and notifications for alerts. You can manage these permissions in your phone’s Android settings.
Photos, videos and audio you choose to send are uploaded to Faithy and follow the access rules of the post, group or conversation where you share them.
Messages and notifications
Settings lets you choose which notifications you receive. Community newsletters include an unsubscribe link that works without signing in.
Android push notifications use Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging. Faithy registers an app installation identifier, a push token and device/app details such as the model, Android version, app version and language to deliver notifications and support compatibility. Registration can happen before sign-in and is associated with your account when you sign in.
Notification data can include sender or community names and message previews. You can control notifications in Faithy and in Android settings, including what appears on your phone’s lock screen.
You can report content or members from their menu. Reports go to Faithy staff for review.
